Post Con Wrap Up
That first day kind of taught me if I want this to be successful, I have to put myself out there and just try to strike up conversations with passersby. I have a hard time doing that, but I committed myself to it Saturday with the plan to be more extroverted on Sunday… and it worked.
I also decided to add one more thing. People love free stuff and after making a grand total of $30 the first day, I decided to just bite the bullet on expense and give stuff away to promote. I started announcing to people who walked by that everyone who came over could take one free button. To say more and more people started talking to me about the comic is an understatement. There even seemed to be genuine excitement as I talked about how the characters represent modern day takes on mermaids, goblins, etc. At the end of the day I even went around and gave each of the other artists one of my stickers.
All and all, this was a big expense I didn’t see a lot of monetary return from. However, I think in terms of good will and building interest, it was a huge success. I still have stickers available for anyone who wants to support this project. They are in my KO-FI shop and if anyone buys even just one I’m gonna toss in some free buttons and a special bonus sticker.
The end goal of this comic is to create an engaging story with a diverse cast of sexualities, races, as well as differently abled people. I want it to be a success and if I have to sacrifice some free merch, then damn it, I’m going to. I’m already considering having another table at a local convention early next year as well as doing IncredibleCon again next year.
Wish us luck!
